How to Know that You Are Going to Heaven
Before you read the following points, please take a moment and talk to God. Ask Him to give you wisdom and patience. Ask Him to protect you from being interrupted whilst reading this page. Ask Him to guide you and help you understand what you are about to read.
As you work through the following points, please take your time and look up the various Bible references mentioned. After all, the decision about whether or not you are going to Heaven is the most important decision that you will ever make in your whole life.
[1] The Bible says that there is only one way to Heaven. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." (John 14:6). Jesus is the only way to Heaven.
[2] Good works, whether performed by you or someone else (living or dead) on your behalf, cannot get you to Heaven (see Ephesians 2:8-9, Romans 3:28 and Romans 5:6). In God's eyes, all of our good works (even religious ones like baptism, see 1st Corinthians 1:17) and personal attempts at being righteousness "are as filthy rags" - i.e. they are completely unacceptable to Him (see Isaiah 64:6).
[3] Religion cannot get you to heaven. Being religious no more makes you a Christian than going into a garage makes you a car. A religion did not die for you. Only Jesus did that - because only Jesus can get you to heaven (see 2nd Corinthians 5:19, Acts 4:12 and John 14:6). You cannot have a relationship with God through a church or through a religion, you can only have a relationship with God through a person - and that Person is Jesus Christ (see 1st Timothy 2:5).
[4] The Bible teaches that every single one of us is a sinner and therefore deserves to go to Hell - not Heaven. Before we can be saved, we need to admit before God that we, like everyone else who has ever lived (except Jesus), are sinners (see Psalm 51:5, Romans 3:10-23 and 1st John 1:8-10). Without Jesus, we have no hope of getting into Heaven. We need someone to take our sins away - only Jesus could do that. Unlike all of us, Jesus lived a perfect life - i.e. He never sinned - therefore only Jesus can take our sins away. See 2nd Corinthians 5:21.
[5] We must repent of our sins (i.e. be sorry for our sins). We must abandon all hope of getting to Heaven by any way that is different to that laid down by the Bible. The Bible teaches us that we can only enter Heaven if we have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. That relationship (and that relationship alone) is the only thing that will get you to Heaven. See Acts 17:30.
[6] Therefore you need to have a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. You enter into this relationship by trusting in Him alone to take away all of your sins (past, present and future) with His blood and take you to heaven. See 1st John 1:7, Acts 16:30-31, John 1:12 and John 3:14-18.
[7] Believe that the Lord Jesus Christ - who was 'God in the flesh', the Son of God, perfect, sinless, the promised Messiah - died for you (i.e. took the punishment for your sin so that He could remove it from you), was buried and rose again. By rising again, He proved that he had accomplished every single thing that he had set out to do - i.e. removing all of your sins (past, present and future) and all of the sins of the whole world (past, present and future) by washing them all away with His own blood. If Jesus had failed to pay for just one sin, then that one sin would have held Him in the grave forever. However, by rising from the dead, Jesus proved that He had indeed taken away every single sin that was ever committed by the human race - therefore the grave was unable to hold him. See 1st Timothy 3:16, Romans 10:9-10, 1st Corinthians 15:13-17 and 1st John 1:7.
[8] God loves you - He gave His Son for you. Jesus loves you - He died for you so that you could have something you don't deserve - an eternity in Heaven. God is offering the Lord Jesus Christ to you right now as a free gift. If you come to Him, He'll not turn you away. Therefore, in the silence of your heart - receive the Lord Jesus Christ, place all of your trust in Him for entry into Heaven, and thank God for giving Jesus to you (as a free gift) and saving you. If you take Jesus, He'll take you. If you say "yes" to Him, He'll say "yes" to you. There is an exchange that takes place - He takes your sin and you take His righteousness. Once you have Jesus, you have salvation. Spiritually speaking, you are now "in Christ" and will go to be with Him when your life is ended. See John 3:14-18, John 6:37, 1st Corinthians 3:1 and 1st Corinthians 3:23.
Now slow down. It is important that you don't rush this.
If you have read through and, with God's help, understood and agreed to the previous 8 points - and now wish to receive Christ so that you can go to Heaven when you die, please say the following prayer.
Believe the following prayer and mean it as you say it............
"Heavenly Father, I come to you in the name of Your Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. I admit that I am a sinner and don't deserve to go to Heaven. I repent of all my sins, I am truly sorry for them. I renounce all confidence in trying to get to Heaven by: my own good works; by the good works of other people on my behalf; by being religious; or by any way that is different from what You have laid down in the Bible."
"Religion, good works and baptism play no part whatsoever in my getting to Heaven. Your word teaches that there is only one way that I get to Heaven - and that is by having a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, trusting in Him alone for entry into Heaven. Only Christ can save me and take me to Heaven. I realise that He does this without assistance from me or any other source."
"I believe everything that the Bible says about Jesus. I know that He is the Son of God, that He is God in the flesh, that He is sinless, that He is perfect, and that He is the promised Messiah. I believe that He died for me, taking the punishment for my sins. I believe that He was buried and rose again. When Jesus rose again, He proved that He had taken away my all of sins (past, present and future)."
"I want to have a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. I receive Him. I receive His perfect righteousness. I receive the eternal life that He offers me. I receive everything that he has for me. He is God's free gift to me. I trust in Him, and Him alone, to take away all of my sins (past, present and future) by His blood and bring me to Heaven. The Lord Jesus Christ is God's free gift to me, I thank God for Him and I receive Him just like I would receive a free gift."
"Thank you Heavenly Father that I have now been placed 'into Jesus Christ'. I am now 'in Jesus'. Because I am in Him and He is risen, I will rise also. Because I am in Him and He lives, I will live also. Because I am in Him and He is in Heaven, I will be in Heaven also. Because I am in Him, I am joined to Him forever - and because I am joined to Him forever, I will be with Him in Heaven forever."
"Thank You Lord that You love me and that Christ loves me. Thank You that You have said that You will never turn away anyone who comes to You, thank You that You haven't turned me away, thank You that I have been born-again, thank You for saving me."
"Please fill me with Your Holy Spirit. Help me to live for You every day of the rest of my life. Help me to tell others that I am now saved. I offer this prayer up to you in the precious name of the Lord Jesus Christ and for Your eternal glory. Amen."
