"There is no such thing as sin.
What is the big deal about getting saved?
I don't need to be saved and I don't think that it is important."
Getting saved is a big deal.
If you get saved - you go to Heaven, and you stay there forever.
If you don't get saved - you go to Hell, and you stay there forever.
So you could say that it is a pretty big deal. After all, 'forever' is a very long time.
Taking the Bible as our guide, let us look at 3 reasons why: (a) getting saved is a big deal; (b) sin does exist and it is a major threat to you; (c) you need to be saved; (d) getting saved is important.
[1] Sin Exists, It Matters to God, You've Got It Within You & You Can't Get Rid of It.
Romans 3:22-23 says: "there is no difference: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God".
Inotherwords, we all sin - therefore we all fall short of the criteria that God has set in order for us to be considered 'righteous', i.e. 100% sinless perfection. The only person who ever met this criteria is Jesus Himself.
1st John 1:8-10 says: "If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us."
Psalm 130:3 says: "If thou, Lord, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand?" The phrase "mark iniquities" means "keep a record of sins".
Inotherwords, if God were to keep a record of our sins - how many of us would be considered righteous enough to go to Heaven? The answer is, none. If you are unsaved, God will keep a list of all of your sins and use that list in order to condemn you on the Day of Judgement and sentence you to Hell (see Luke 12:1-3 and Revelation 20:13). If however you get saved, God goes along to your list of sins and hits the delete button - i.e. He wipes them all out, the dreaded list of your sins doesn't exist any more (see Jeremiah 31:34).
[2] Sin Has Major Eternal Implications for You.
Isaiah 57:20-21 says: "But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt. There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked."
In the above verse (Isaiah 57:20-21), the Bible defines "the wicked" as 'those who commit sin'. Biblically speaking, a 'wicked' person is a person whose sins have not been taken away - i.e. an unsaved person. True, deep, eternal, spiritual peace is only found in Heaven. The unsaved will only experience this peace if they get saved (i.e. if their sins are taken away).
John 8:34 says: "Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin."
Inotherwords, the individual who has not had their sins taken away is not a free person. They are slaves. They are in captivity. They are in bondage to something else (i.e. sin) and someone else (i.e. Satan). In fact, many of these people may not even realise this. They may think that they are in control of their own lives. In the words of Invictus, they believe that they are their own 'master', the 'captain' of their own soul. Sadly, like the author of Invictus, they are deceived. They don't realise that they are trapped in a large, invisible, spiritual prison called 'Sin'. It is impossible for them to escape from this prison. This prison is built on quicksand and it is gradually sinking down into Hell. They are in a desperate condition, whether they realise it or not. They need to be 'rescued'. They need to be set free - and the only person who can do that is Jesus.
Galatians 3:10 says: "Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them."
Inotherwords, God requires 100% consistent, righteousness, perfection and obedience in all things from birth until death - and that includes thought, word and deed. In short, He commands us to be perfect in every way (see Matthew 5:48). Sadly, no one (except Jesus) has ever acheived this in the whole of human history. Therefore, according to the above verse (Galatians 3:10), the entire human race is "cursed". That's why we needed to Jesus to come along and remove the curse from us. He did this by living the perfect life that God requires (and that we could never live), and then He (who did not deserve to be cursed), took our curse from us and placed it upon Himself. He then took the punishment for our curse (i.e. death) by dying in our place. On Calvary, God treated Jesus as if He had lived your life - so that now, if you get saved (click here for more information), He can treat you as if you had lived Jesus' life.

These statements from the Bible (given above in points [1] and [2]) shows us that 'sin' is something which actually exists. Therefore, from our reading of the Bible, we can say that we know for a fact that there is indeed such a thing as sin, and there is indeed such a thing as 'right and wrong'.
Furthermore, we learn from the Bible that Moral Relativists - i.e. those who claim that there is no such thing as sin (or a Biblically-defined objective, absolute, moral standard of right and wrong) - are greatly mistaken and will sadly end up in Hell if they die believing in this fallacy.
There is only one reason why God can, or will, send a person to Hell, and that is to punish them for their sins. If there is no such thing as sin, then God cannot send anyone to Hell (not even Satan himself or evil people like Adolf Hitler or Joseph Stalin). But we do know however from the Bible that God can, does and will send people to Hell - therefore sin must exist (see Psalm 9:17, Matthew 7:13, Revelation 19:20 and Revelation 20:10-15).
The sins that people will be eternally punished for in Hell are real ones - i.e. they are real sins, which actually exist, and which were actually committed by them when they lived upon this earth. When a person goes to Hell, they will not be punished for imaginary sins. Real sin will keep you in Hell for eternity. Imaginary sin could not keep you in Hell for a second.
George Whitefield, one of the greatest preachers of 1700s, said the following concerning the seriousness of Hell and sin: "If one evil thought, if one evil word, if one evil action, deserves eternal damnation - how many Hells, my friends, do every one of us deserve, whose lives have been one continued rebellion against God?" Just one sin is all it takes to damn your soul to Hell for all eternity.
[3] And Yet God Still Loves You, Despite Your Sin
As you have no doubt gathered from reading the above paragraphs contained in points [1] and [2] - spiritually and symbolically speaking, you are dangling helplessly over the mouth of Hell, you can feel the heat from the fire rising up quickly to consume you, and your ONLY HOPE is for God (i.e. the same God whom you've offended, the same God whom you don't deserve, the same God whom you have failed, the same God whom you can never please) to come and rescue you. If it wasn't for the UNDESERVED LOVE that this amazing God has for you, you would have no hope of rescue whatsoever. Fortunately for you however, God has placed an invisible Roadblock between you and Hell, to stop you going there - that Roadblock is HIS UNDESERVED LOVE (presented to you in the person of Jesus Christ). Rather than just leave you to suffer in the punishment that your own sin deserves, God still loves you - therefore He wants to rescue you. He desires your rescue from Hell so much that He sent His own Son to die for you and take your punishment so that you wouldn't have to go there.
When you begin to get your mind around the subject of sin, as describted above in points [1] and [2], then you start to realise that the love of God is not a trite or unimportant thing. The fact that God still loves you, despite all of the reasons why He shouldn't love you, is a very big deal. The love of God for us should strike us and shock us due to its importance, especially when set against the background of the seriousness of our sin.
